Saying doula is like saying doctor. Just like there are different types of doctors, there are different types of doulas. Doulas do more than just support with births. Doulas support with postpartum, family planning, puberty, transitions, menopause, abortions, and more. This directory is for Black doulas in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Texas, and British Columbia!!

How to Receive Support
The Melanated Glove Service:
Whether full-paying or needing sliding scale support, complete our online form (below) is our initial referral source to talk about doula support. The form works best on Chrome and Safari. Black folks and families can self-refer, and/or have another provider refer them.
​After completing the questionnaire, you will be contacted to schedule a for a 15 minute inquiry meeting to make sure that we help you find the right doula for you. You can use our directory below, or receive our support to find a Black doula in Washington or Texas. Then, you will be matched with a doula for an introductory meeting to make sure they fit your journey.

You'll also be eligible to receive other BLKBRY supports and wrap around services.

We'll conduct check-ins with you and your doula to ensure that you have access to the resources you need and that your doula providing you with the care that you deserve.

Qualifications for Financial Support:
We do offer financial support for those facing financial hardship. We currently offer up to 10 Black folks and Black families (meaning that the pregnant or primary caregiver is Black/African-American) per year living in King County, Washington without Medicaid insurance. We prioritize those that are low-income, facing financial difficulties, non-Medicaid insurance, or healthcare inequities that impact their access to culturally congruent full spectrum doula support. Please make sure that you select your level of need on your questionnaire.

This also supports us in making sure that we match you with a doula that accepts is state credentialed to accept Medicaid, or other insurance.

We launched this directory to specifically address the need for culturally congruent support across different cultures and many identities, as well as the full spectrum of reproductive care for Black folks in the Pacific Northwest of the US. This directory is meant to be a resource to not only find a doula that is aware of and inclusive of a person's cultural values, beliefs, and practices, but shares culture, background, religion, practices, and identities as you!
Please note that not every reproductive health worker on this directory is trained or certified, or endorsed by BLKBRY. We strive to support, enhance, and make space for their work.
