Dear Community,
We are facing a crisis that cannot be ignored.
In 2019, 65,000 Black women and girls were reported missing and as of November 2024, that number has grown to over 100,000. These are not just statistics, these are our daughters, sisters, nieces, cousins, mothers and friends.
Black children make up 13% of the child population in the U.S., but nearly 40% of all missing children's cases. yet, they receive only 7% of the media coverage compared to their white counterparts. Their disappearances are frequently dismissed as "runaways" or assumed to be connected to criminal activity, when many are victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking.

We need an EBONY ALERT in Washington State
The Ebony alert is a recommendation from the RISE report from the Department of Commerce. It will be a dedicated alert system that differes from the Amber Alert by allowing activation for suspicious or unexplained disappearances, no just confirmed abductions. It applies to missing Black children, women, and men, addressing the biases that often misclassify them as runaways that exclude them from Amber Alerts. In California, the Ebony Alert was successfully written into law, but without community support, it has not been as effective as it could be. Now, it's time for Washington to act - We need your help!
How You Can Help Right Now: Sign Ebony Alert Initiative in Washington Petition and share on your website, social media, and your person and professional networks.
